Do you know what’s even better than ice cream? How about homemade ice cream? We love how easy and fun it is to shake our way to a tasty treat.
Congratulate the kids on a productive day of eLearning with this awesome and fun after-school activity.  You can use this activity to bring to life some scientific principles your kids might be learning about, or use it as a way to celebrate your child’s eLearning accomplishments for the day.
How will you shake your ice cream up? Can you try with one foot, flamingo-style? How about hopping like a bunny? However you shake it, we know you’ll be happy with the finished result: yummy ice cream you created!
What kind of toppings will you put on your scoop? We like them all. Creative living expert Lynn Lilly shows us how to get started in the steps below!
Supplies:
- 3 Cups of Ice
- â…“ Cup of Kosher Salt
- 1 Cup of Half-and-Half
- 2 Tablespoons of Granulated Sugar
- ½ Teaspoons of Pure Vanilla Extract
- 2 Zip Top Bags
Time to Make: 10-15 minutes
Step 1: Combine the half-and-half, sugar, and vanilla extract in one zip top bag. Squeeze out all the air. Seal. Set aside for now.
Step 2: In the other zip top bag, combine ice and salt. Place the first zip top bag into the second bag of ice and salt and seal.
Step 3: Shake the bags vigorously for 7 to 10 minutes, or until the ice cream has hardened.
Step 4: Remove the ice cream from the freezer bag and place in a bowl. Add toppings of your choice!
Step 5: Enjoy your sweet treat! What kind of toppings do you like on your ice cream? If you are not ready to eat, store in the zip top bag or a sealed airtight container in the freezer!
